Ghardaia - Ouargla (225km)

(Stage 13.3)

Algeria - driving from Ghardaia south of the Atlas Mountains to Ouargla arriving on 4.1.03

Rallye mail

Saturday 4th and things seemed to be getting better, then it started to rain. Luckily we had got to Ouargla and were able to take shelter.

Rain is hardly the word.

Torrential downpour was more like it.

When it rains here it really rains, the dry wadis become flowing rivers in a matter on minutes. We were told that cars had been washed away in flash floods, drivers had drowned, were trapped in their cars in gullies while they waited for the storm to clear and the story wasn't hard to believe.

We stayed over on Sunday - giving in to the storm that was more than we were used to and deserved respect.
