Next Stage - Night driving trial Paris to Lyon

(Stage 3)
16th November

Just a polite note that my car PePE no. 31 will be on auto pilot for this
weekend as it's my birthday tomorrow.

Also I have to accompany Peter Duck, but not in H-van numero neuf, because he has to take Splodge, his red 2cv to be filmed in Sussex.

This is why Splodge couldn't enter the Rallye Sud. He's becoming a filmstar. Or as the modern people say - a CELEBRITY.

I don't know what Peter Duck's arrangements are for the H-van this weekend as right now he's out of range battling the elements due south-west of my present position.

A bientot. Gillian

PS My steering wheel's only got one spoke. What do I do if it snaps?

Organiser's Reply: Happy Birthday Gillian. I suggest that you add a spoke to your birthday wish list!

Special Message .... Happy Birthday Gillian, Team 31, 16th November

The stage was brilliantly driven.

Paris - Troyes 222 km
-Auxerre 81 km
-Avallon 53 km
-Challon 112 km
-Macon 125 km
- (Lyon) Vienne 145 km
- TOTAL 716 km (461 miles)

An eight hour run from 21:00 to 05:00 at an average of 55kph

The French legs are being run on traditional Rallye rules i.e. the points are given for arriving on time rather than ' tiret fou' (the mad-dash © Cutler-International (Ealing) Ltd) seen so much today where steering is ignored and corners are 'managed' my sliding, roaring, grunting and occaisionally colliding. (This may be a solution for team 31 if it was too late to find a birthday spoke)

For teams that like this sort of thing there will be plenty of opportunities soon.

The results have just been calculatated..(see below)

Here are some snaps taken on the Paris-Lyon Leg
