the first ever M25 25 hour Endurance Race

A number of hazards were to be encountered at random by cars selected by chance. The severity of the hazard ranged from 1 (temporary blip) to 6 6 (out of race). Teams were reminded to note that some hazards were by their nature race stopping and others were of no real consequence. The effects range from losing a number of places (1-6), going into pits (losing laps (1-6) and withdrawing from the Race. There were no mystery hazards but factors including snow, heavy rain, rush hour, land slip, strong winds (and others) occured and would affect all those on the road (but not in the pits) equally.

The hazard instances were governed by chance but the organisers decisions were not open to question or debate.

Teams were given the opportunity to 'give up' at any time by informing the organisers by e-mail.

(team groups)

Teams were free to make public any comments they wished by e-mailing these to the organisers who ensured (where the organisers considered they were printable to be included in the news page) N.B. pictures were permitted as well as words and sounds

(Checking the 'clocks' and the 'essentials')

Teams were warned that disqualification would be invoked if 'team orders' caused the natural result of the race to be affected in any way.

(final checks & runs)

England follows the Continental celebration of regional differences and this is noticeable on the M25 from the variety of road surfaces. Rugged in parts to show the crustiness of the British landscape, soft and quiet in others to reflect the lifestyle of the Home Counties, noisy to reflect the industrial heritage, standing water to illustrate our nautical background and so on.

15:30 Everything ready for the start. TV personality Murray Minntie Asks Alan Cole, the driver of the "sportiest car by far" for his views....

Alan Cole (team #27): Having reviewed the hazards that we may encounter during this difficult stage I would like to point out that car 27 does not have any of the following items, as these were specifically eliminated during its build:

1. wipers (no windscreen)
2. radio (none found with sufficient volume)
3. heater (no good trying to heat the whole environment)
4. fan blades (engine fully exposed to the slipstream)
5. points (the only points required are winning ones)

I, therefore, trust that this will be taken into account this afternoon by Driver Fate himself.

My crew and I were dismayed to see the weather this morning, so perhaps additional points for perseverance in the prevailing extreme (for Lomax's with no weather protection) climatic conditions will be awarded.

Murray: I was known as Murray the eel in my racing days! I know what it's like to sit in an open cockpit. I won't say I know you are going to win - just in case, besides you already have one wheel missing so the least I say the better.

Alan Cole (team #27) Thanks Murry. Good luck to all the other entrants as you will need it against the super quick british racing green bullet!

Murray: Thanks Alan. The drivers now take their positions ready for the classic dash across the carpark so redolent of times gone by when men were men and women were women - just feel this refreshing drizzle. Over to the studio...........

This is a record of the first ever M25 25 Hour 2CV Endurance Race..... ... ...
