Marshalling began on the 25 hr race: The M25 always draws a big crowd so 100% of the virtual marshalling team were briefed and issued with a set of coloured flags each (they all carry different meanings) a whistle, tabard, identity pass, extinguisher, Squelch Master walkie-talkie torch and a thermos.

The organisers were hoping to get close to the mix of professionalism and enjoyment from the event as experienced at this month's Spa 24hr 2CV race.

You appear to have allocated two entrants with the the same number - 35. The Crow's and someone who is listed as 'deceased'

Organiser's reply Hello - Sorry! -I am doing several things at once (in this area as well as the real world!)

Trying to keep a 'here and now' 'real time' quality
Trying to keep an historic 'Journal' that makes sense
Trying to live in the future (i.e. thinking ahead, not only thinking but building)

Some of the people who wanted to be involved couldn't and I decided that it was more confusing to visitors to have gaps in the team sequence so I have reused the nulls knowing that some of the journal information will mis-match (if current date news data is mixed with data from a historic page) I have left #13 blank as I wouldn't want to deliberately issue an abandoned number 13 to anyone.

I am working on getting everything coherent for the (here and now) 25 hour race and you should be 'normalised' by then. I was unaware of using the technical term deceased but if this appears or is deduced I unreservedly apologise. For the record, along with your disposable corner cutters etc, you are issued with nine lives but I am not making this public at this stage.

19 October

A busy day for the organisers and teams. The entrants were booked in and briefings held on safety issues, rules, points of contact and the teams were allocated space in the Staines 'Rallye' Car Park which is the pits for this event.

 

The mobile teams homes and corporate hospitality tents in operation. The cars were prepared, set up and trial laps run to ensure everything was perfect for the big day tomorrow.

 

Sadly the Post Office who were responsible for a lot of pioneering work on the British Moon Rocket Programme are no longer operating. We turned down offers for all sorts of assistance and invested in our own satellite. The lens problem has been corrected by the simple expedient of 'bye-focals' and as there was a special offer "Buy one - get one free" on at the excellent Optical Shop in Staines we now have a spare pair too!

Satellites have, for all sorts of reasons, to fly quite high and this is a problem because they are usually well above any clouds. Rain is forecast so we will use moisture penetrating software to sharpen the images - Do Not Adjust Your Sets if you see some odd things. We have a standby 'eye-in-the sky' Fockker Woolf which flies slow enough to match the speed of the traffic but, of course has no hovering capability as such.

The carswere equipped (at random) with Rallye-Cams and we hoped to get some interesting pictures, particularly around junction 28. The signals, for interest are bounced off Crystal Palace and Dung Hilly Downs famous for trapping the first electronic criminal making his escape on a steamer, (Those were the days!)
