Yes its time for the article that does exactly what it ‘says on the tin’ so to speak. First the disclaimer: The following is my own personal opinion and if you choose to copy any of the processes you do so at your own risk. Remember be safe with those power tools and things which are sharp etc. The following is greatly simplified and will not guarantee you produce a race winning or even functional car. There, I think that’s enough.

Stage 1

First of all find yourself a car. The shell has to be post 1970 2CV. As your going to completely strip it, don’t use your mum’s show winning and concourse Charleston. Much better is to start with an unloved 2CV that you can revive into more than its former glory. We bought this pink and white Dolly for a few crisp notes from under a tree where it had sat for 3 years.

Now the fun bit; strip everything out that you don’t need. Ok its actually not a lot, mainly the seats and the sound proofing! Then separate the body and chassis. Remember as with everything it looks like it will take just the morning but you may still be struggling with it past your bedtime. Don’t put the roll cage in yet as we did. Actually spend time welding and repairing the bulkhead, floors, seatbox etc. Tell yourself you love 2CV’s, you actually enjoy welding and a little hard work never hurt anyone.

Ok, Stage 1 is done and you’ve not made it any faster yet!
