Editorial

Sad to say that as Christmas approaches (Bah Humbug time again !) and the millennium bug looms large, it's time to beg for money again. Those of you who wish to continue to receive this enthralling epistle on a monthly basis will need to cross The Treasurer's palm with some £5 to help with the production and distribution costs.

The Macdonalds have now 'found' The Newport in Romsey - home of the Off Piste Ducks, the newest local club and regular haunt of Rooneys. In fact we were there for 2 weekends in a row. We had taken DG to Totally 2CV for a service and estimate for body works. The suggestion to have a bit of lunch in the pub was just impossible to resist ...twice ! First when we delivered her and the following week when we collected her again. Many thanks to Jeff for a job well done. The car is certainly happier now !
Apologies for this being a thin (and somewhat late) edition. We spent last weekend in mid-Wales visiting Kirsty and Gill's contributions arrived while we were away. This has left me with only a couple of evenings to do the typing !

Don't forget to brave the disaster that is the A3 roadworks and make your way to Ripley for this month's meeting at 'The Talbot'. See you there !

Chat from the Chair

I'm glad some 'old faces' turned up at "The Talbot" and the 'old faithful' were there too. I hope some more of you will join us next time.

We have a choice of 2 bars, so I plan to get there early and find us a place in the less busy bar - please don't forget raffle prizes - the money we raise helps pay for this newsletter, so the more prizes we have the better. We decided it was more of a 'chance' if prizes were wrapped or disguised - so use anything to add to the mystery.
We have had a committee meeting but if anyone 'out there' wants to organise an outing please let us know - new ideas are always welcome.

Gill

2CVGB - The AGM !

Barry Bowles is the new Chairman of 2CVGB.
Barbara Read - Secretary.
Maurice remains Treasurer - his post was not up for election.
As for the rest you can read it in the magazine.

The meeting was not well attended and all elections were unopposed. This was pretty boring really. I feel that we need to have more nominees and then postal voting for those who can't attend but want to take part. This great innovation will probably take years of discussion but I think it is something to think about.

As you may or may not know, 2CVGB is about to become a Limited Liability Company. This is mainly for insurance liability purposes but it will mean a few differences. I feel that some of the organisation will need to be more streamlined and aware of rules which should not be changed. (e.g. committee meetings notified in advance, AGM on an immovable date, etc.) They also decided that anyone wanting to bid for organising The International must do so at the next committee meeting after the AGM and then only the committee will decide the venue. However, we only know that January is the month of the meeting at the moment.

A Trip to Alan & Jo's in Normandy

Bill & I took the van back to its homeland for a week. We took the overnight boat and in the dark headed for breakfast and Bayeaux market on Saturday morning. We got lots of fresh vegetables for casseroles and soup and then went to La Chapelle.

Bill had not been there before so he was impressed and I was glad to see Graham, Juliet, Alan & Jo.

In the evening we were invited for a few wines and - this set a pattern of evening drinking in one of the houses most days.
It was good fun driving the van in France. Bill soon got used to having the steering wheel in the right place. Several people admired the van. The man at the terminal in Portsmouth thought we were French and on our return another Customs man said what a superb vehicle.

In Normandy we visited markets, the seaside and countryside. We ate moules freshly caught that day (what other way is there ? - ed) and went to a brocante & scrap yard. Bill found headlights for his old car but no van panels. Still, we'll keep looking.

Alan was in the middle of exporting his AK400 to the States. A man from the former Yugoslavia escaped from the fighting in his AK400 but left it in Europe when he got refugee status in the U.S. He now wants another to remind him of his dash for freedom - all this from information in the internet.....

I could go on about this holiday .... but all I can say is if you want a rest with a 2CV flavour - get yourself to Alan & Jo's.
