The Ticket
Number 89 - May 1999

Editorial
Elected (?) unopposed as Editor again - you'll have to continue to suffer my 'wit' and creative excuses for late delivery for another twelve months.

My expectation of great things to come in the way of articles inspired by last month's contributions was optimistic. Back to your regular contributors, Gill, Dave and the Macs, for the May issue ! If that's what you want to read in The Ticket fine but I'd rather have some more variation from the rest of you.

If it helps (it would certainly make my life easier) you can send me articles etc by e-mail at hamilton@macdonald12.freeserve.co.uk. You could also send your comments about staying at The Anchor to this address or to Dick as found here on the Madhatters web site.

Last Sunday (2nd May) we (6 cars worth of Madhatters and Bob from the Tortoises) raided the Wessex Ducks at the Tyrells Ford Hotel. This proved a very enjoyable visit - not least because the glorious weather enabled the meeting to gather in the beautiful setting of the pub garden. We then convoyed (15 or so cars) to Barton-on-Sea where the options included cream teas or delicious local ice creams. The Macdonalds hit upon a classic compromise. We had ice cream in the sun but bought a tub of clotted cream. Lynne cooked scones on Bank Holiday Monday - this with home made strawberry jam and the Dorset cream was also a delicious combination !

Chat from the Chair
Well we were back at a re-furbished Anchor. They have made a good job of it and the beer has improved. I think we need to take a note of members opinions to see if we want to change the venue. I booked 2 months (April & May) at The Anchor when I went to see the new management. Please bring your opinions to the next meeting. If you feel really strongly come and say your bit, or write or e-mail so that we know how you feel.

It was good to see Barry safely returned from Australia - when are you going again ? or should I ask Gloria !!

In spite of the short notice, the AGM went well. As you can see - you are still stuck with me as 'Chair' but we have got some new faces on The Committee. However, you as the club are the grand Committee and you can suggest or organise anything you like. The more ideas we have the better. Get thinking about what you want to do and let us know, so we can do it.

Gill

The AGM
Gill, Chairperson - "we had a good year - good events were organised and we participated in plenty of events organised by other clubs.." Also thanks for your support - I am happy to go on as 'Chair' but would step down if anyone else volunteered (they didn't).

Dave, Treasurer - reported a good amount in the 'kitty' - about £600. The club shop was responsible for a lot of this so thanks Lynne, Ham and Julie of course for her skills.

Ham (& family), Editor - what would we all do without "The Ticket" ? If you feel like writing please send 'stuff' in whenever the fancy takes you.

These lucky 3 were re-instated without opposition but we will now welcome Louise, Ray, Dick & Yvette to help with running the club. Barry, of course, is still our Technical Adviser - ready to help in our hour of need.

Kite Flying with Les Fils de Vitesse
Two cars from the Madhatters and one from the Thames Tortoises set out for West Wycombe. Louise & Dave are really enthusiastic kite flyers but the rest of us went along for the ride. Bill knew the way se we reached the hill, found the road to the top and waited for "Les Fils". I expected at least six cars because this is one of their BBQ outings .... However only Ian (The Chairperson) arrived with his daughter but in a Cavalier .... his 2CV was not behaving itself. He was disappointed. Tony White was ill - unheard of in 20 years or more - so a great enthusiast was ill. Where were the rest ??

We lit the BBQ, cooked a great feast and then got on with serious flying. Dave & Louise had enough kites for an army but used 2 very noisy ones. Bill even had a go. Ian & his daughter flew theirs. It was a great venue and good fun. Thanks 'Fils' for organising it.

Le Mans 13-16 May 1999 - French National Meeting
Quite a few Madhatters are going. We are planning to take the Portsmouth-Caen morning boat (8am !) on Wednesday 12th May & return on Sunday 16th. Barry is getting the tickets - unless you have already got yours.

The good programme of events starts on Thursday and goes on for the weekend ... If you haven't been to a 'foreign' meeting, then here's your chance. There'll be a few of us to take care of you.

Gill
