The Ticket

   Number 97 - Jan 2000

Editorial

Happy New Year (millennium or whatever you’d like to call it). It’s certainly good news from our walking wounded. Both Gill and Dave are doing well after their traumas of the end of 1999. We received a card from Dave expressing his thanks for all good wishes and hoping to see us soon. I’ll bring it to the meeting so you can all see it.

Lynne & I missed the Christmas Common walk and the Hayling Island barbecue because I was fending off the millennium bug and had to work. The festivities weren’t quite the same ! Lynne had a phone call from Sue who couldn’t find the rest of the group at Lammas Park but was unable to be of much help. We’d advise anyone coming along to a first outing to give one of us a ring first then we can look out for you and wait if necessary. We hope this hasn’t put you off Sue ! Look forward to seeing you soon.

Lynne’s faithful E313 EYJ is now looking beautiful after the efforts of Jeff Colmer and friends. I think you’ll agree that they’ve done an excellent job. Now we’ll have to start on the inside ! Not to mention needing to keep polishing and pampering the outside.

As I said last month... we need money ! If you find a slip in with “Ticket” this month we probably don’t know whether you’re still wanting the magazine. Don’t miss out on events... if you want to keep on getting the magazine we need your £5 towards production and distribution costs. Please send to Dave Farmar soon.

Those of you planning a visit to Provence for the French National can get an application form from me. If you’re going to Normandy for DENTWORM you can apply direct to Alan on 00.33.231.77.36.91 or 2cv@wanadoo.fr by e-mail. While mentioning this address - look out for Alan’s note regarding the deal he has on roofs for only FF750 + P&P.

Yet another late, thin edition this month. Life really has been hectic these last few weeks. On the other hand it all seems to have been worth it ! Very few problems apart from a few ageing PC’s deciding that they’ve had enough.

Christmas Common- 1999

The weather had been wet but on the day it was clear and crisp. Six cars/vans set out from Staines for an uneventful convoy to the Common. When we got to the car park there were 3 other cars from the local are, so we made a good walking party. It was not that wet underfoot, so we had a good walk - uphill and down dale as it were. When we got back to the car park we were greeted by an amazing surprise - yes Barry, Gloria, Peter & Louise had trekked from Lincolnshire. Shame they missed the walk but they joined us at the Carriers Arms for a superb lunch & beer etc. Another car arrived and it was Jenny & Eddy from the Thames Tortoises. Their visitors left late, so they missed us in Staines - it was a great outing and certainly blew the cobwebs away.

Publicity for “French Life”

By the time this comes out a number of us will have joined in the convoy from Eurotunnel to London to publicise the exhibition at Olympia - you will hear about it later !

Southern Clubs News

21st - 23rd July Walton-On-Thames, W-O-T 2000 ?

We will have a meeting in the New Year to sort out which clubs will be responsible for what and plan events for the weekend. So far :

Friday evening : music in the bar

Saturday a.m. shopping etc., children’s events

Saturday p.m. convoy to Windsor. Bill is working on concessions for places of interest - but not the castle.

Saturday evening Disco ? band ? fireworks ?

Sunday competitions, games, communal breakfast, millennium cake, bubbly etc.

This is only an idea, we need your ideas plus lots & lots of volunteers for various duties. The more people who help the less onerous it will be.

The meeting will be at The Talbot in Ripley. (The last pub on the right from Guildford and the A3, the first on the left from the M25). 8 pm, Wednesday, 19th January.

Chat from the Chair

It was good to be back at the meeting and lovely to see everyone who had sent me good wishes during my stay in hospital. There was a good gathering, Christmas cards were exchanged etc. and the raffle was good. There was an embarrassing moment when the landlord asked us when we wanted to eat ! He had us down for a meal but I had never confirmed this. I just hope this has not put any ‘bad vibes’ between us.

I hope you all had a good festive season and that those of you who had to work managed to have some time to celebrate.

I sincerely hope that in 2000 you all enjoy your 2CVs and events that are planned in the summer months. (more later)

We hope that “James” will be back on the road in the next few months. Life is not the same without him.
