Chat from the Chair

Another good meeting. This time we were in the main part of the pub all around a lovely coal fire. In fact it was quite hot. Everyone enjoyed the chat - people were busy helping out each other with spares and advice - just what 2CVing is all about. We had a good raffle - the secret prizes are a lot of fun, so keep wrapping those prizes.

Our bonfire night was great fun in spite of the weather - see report later. Since then we have visited (well, Lynne, Ham, Bill and I have) Pompey Puddleducks, Fils de Vitesse and Club Clouseau (the club formerly known as the Downland Dromedaries - ed) with our new Christmas Cards and jewellery etc. Sales are steady so we are increasing club funds. December sees us in our own room so what can we do to celebrate Christmas ? Why not bring a crazy idea or a silly game to play.

See you soon,

Gill.

Clubs on the move

Fils de Vitesse now meet at The Lion Brewery, on the A323 in Ash.

Wessex Ducks can now be found at The Tyrrells Ford Hotel. Take the B3347 out of Ringwood for 3 miles, then it’s on the left.

Bonfire Night

As usual it rained .... typical of a Madhatters event ! Lynne & Ham had set up the BBQ. We brought tables, potatoes, cheese and fireworks. We set up what we could but were waiting for Colin and the potato baker and Barry - the lights - Angus was busy putting out the signs.

The forecast was not good so we just waited. Colin arrived so the potatoes were "on the go". Saucepans of soup were on gas rings and we were ready. Barry produced lights and generators so we had an "event".

Just as we thought people would start to arrive the heavens opened .... but they did come. Wendy from Puddleducks ‘got the money’ from the arrivals and soup was dispensed.

Angus and Barry were the pyromaniacs who got the bonfire going. Luck was on our side .... the rain stopped (and Barry did not blow us all up). It was at this point I suggested we soon started the fireworks in case it rained again. The guy competition was judged and the entries were thrown onto the fire. The winners had chocolate bars - well done kids they were all excellent so it was hard to choose.

Richard and Ham played Guy Fawkes and lit the fuses and stood clear. I am sure everyone enjoyed the surprises. At this stage I had fallen over a log on my way back to the refreshment area. I did not see many fireworks but the potatoes were doing well.

The rest of the evening remained fine and everyone ate and drank their fill before going back to Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire etc. Thanks everyone for your support and a great evening. We made a £20 profit for Southern Club Funds. If only it had been better weather so more people would have ventured out.

Norman’s Remains’

On the basis of ‘We’ll send you ours if you send us yours....’ we are now receiving a copy of Le Crapaud which will be available at club meetings. This is the organ of the ex-pats Alan and Jo Taylor. The more attentive readers will have seen copies of their advertising for their gite and camping holidays in lovely Normandy in last month’s newsletter.

Included in a very entertaining newsletter is reference to the CV2CV Club Viking Normandie who are very keen to form links with British clubs. Amongst other things there are plans for a camping weekend next year. Watch this space and make sure you seek out Le Crapaud next time you’re at the Anchor. You can also obtain your very own copy if you complete the application form and make an acceptable donation for postage.
