The intrepid explorers to the Scotland National meeting hunt for friendly natives amongst the wild plains of the Scottish highlands..whilst playing the spot the haggis competition..(ITS IN THE TREE!)Mehari drivers stalked by wild haggi ..
Wanted, one of theses for a fiver!

We said that we could get about 50 cars, but just over 30 was a good turnout. The weather was glorious, cars turned up and parked in the allotted display area and picnics began..
When we went in to enjoy the lovely spectacular, the smell of steam and the fairground organs set the atmosphere,it was hard to know where to start, train rides(3 of them),gardens, fairground rides.Bill managed the gallopers but I tried the rest,.Chairoplanes(not the gondola though),big wheel,etc..
Just ask everyone who went...they had a wonderful day,old and young.Everyone was amazed at what they found Bill even had time to see the bioscope while I had a rest.
(Another great Southern Clubs event, well done to Andrew,etc..Editor)

CHAT FROM THE CHAIR
I should be writing this on my computer but I am not in the right frame of mind.Bill and I have just experienced our third major disaster of the year ,Bills mum died after two weeks in hospital,so this may be a little disjointed. We dashed back from Scotland on the Sunday in 8.5 hours after a phone call from Oxford-Mum was still alive when we got there but died in the early hours of Monday morning
Back to the August meeting...it really was a busy one,our NORTHERN EXILE,John Ambrosen and Sandy appeared ..as did Robyn , and many others..it was lovely to see so many people there.I do hope September is good.We even sat outside AGAIN..
I am sure people have lots of holiday and camping news to exchange, and those holiday snaps for us to see
This newsletter is slightly earlier than normal because of the POO BRIDGE DAY OUT/PICNIC ON September The 9th(directions later in this newsletter),do come ,we will be pleased to see you.
If you have any ideas of things we can do over the winter months(horrible thought..WINTER..Editor),bring them with you and we can plan a good programme
GILL

Scotland..we were there
In spite of bills mum being ill we went to Stirling, she was most insistent that we went,so armed with mobile phone and in car charger off we went.
We left Staines around 8.30 am with dave shove and trailer,(not the amazing folding caraven..editor) and bob and ray in the Ami 6..the journey up the M40,M5,M6 was uneventful,we knew that Tim Dodds was trailering an H VAN to Scotland(as you do..editor) called humphrey(well of course) and we were keeping in touch by mobile..he caught us up at the services at junc 36 of the M6..we left for our bed and breakfast at the Ais Gill summit in the moors(remote or what.. Editor!!!!) with our friends Pauline and Bill. The weather was glorious ,we walked on the fells ,saw sheep(we worry about Ray.theres friendly and FRIENDLY..editor) the waterfalls and the river Eden.We had and excellent meeting in H awes that evening and a few beers, very good and very cheap.
We left next morning but Tim had forgotten to release the hand brake on the H van trailer, cooked brakes and axles do not smell good,,fortunately the garage in the next village helped out..he managed to catch us up near Glasgow and we managed to camp together under our NEW CLUB BANNER!!!!!..(yes it arrived at the bed and breakfast in the dales for us to pick up) its great..
The site was superb.. Under Stirling Castle on one side and the Wallace monument on the other with mountains all around. The sun was out and we settled for the night.
Friday was HOT.We explored Stirling went to the Trossachs(but didn't get caught by them..editor) and Loch Lomond. It rained that night but indoor venue was superb, the trade stands and flea market were slightly smaller than normal , but everything was superbly organised-tatties and haggis on Saturday,..A superb 50 mile convoy through spectacular scenery to a whisky distillery…..so more will be heard of this event I will stop now except to say that we packed up and left to get back to Oxford Hospital ,leaving Stirling at 6.30 am and arriving at 3pm...well done James…
