Latest ferry news... hovercraft trips from folkestone/calais are no more,T he Seacat route from Folkestone to Boulogne has been withdrawn
Brittany ferries are being investigated after P&O have said they could close the Le-Havre and Bilbao routes due to the hidden subsidies that Brittany get from the French Government meaning P&O loose money on these routes.Brittany, in conjunction with Condor, are introducing a new high speed catamaran to Cherbourg to compete with P&O...also a new ferry ,twice the size of the existing one, is being introduced this year on the Caen route.
Seafrance offer 2cvgb members discounts..quote 2cvgb when ordering. Seafrance have the best prices for Dover /Calais(but then you would if you did not have to make a profit!).
15% OFF Portsmouth ferries from P& O if you quote 2cv club(rumours that P&0 FERRIES UP FOR SALE)
Eurotunnel best for day trips, saves over 3 hours on journey times and price less than than Seafrance(£45 day trip..£12 after 3pm)
APRIL ,SPRING !(touring time)
Lets hope the weather will have improved next month and we can get an experience of rolled back roofs.Bill opens his at the slightest hint of sunshine(and me-editor),then has to rush out to shut it when there is the slightest hint of a shower e.g. today!
Lovely to see you all again at the A.G.M. ,lets hope that even more of you will venture out to join on the second Tuesday of each month AND come to the various weekend meetings.
While having a” grand tidy-up” of 2cv matters in my boxroom I found-thanks to Sue Cole, our first Secretary, the first issues of the Madhatters newsletter and even the original letter from Kathryn Doddington thanking us for going to the meeting to set up a Surrey group..this letter contained various suggestions for names -some were very weird and imaganative,Iam hoping that our esteemed editor will publish some of the archive material over the next few months(special editions starting next month-editor),this should make good reading. If any of you want to browse through earlier editions ,come along to the meetings and hopefully you can.
Fathers day. June 17th Andrew is organising this again, details soon

Letters to the editors helpful column
Last year I upgraded from AK3.50 to Hvan 1.0 and noticed that the
new program began making unexpected changes to the accounting modules,
limiting access to car parks and low bridge applications that had operated
flawlessly under AK3.50.In addition ,Hvan 1.0 uninstalled many other
valuable programs, such as Cosy6.9,but installed undesirable programs
such as Fuel bill 5.0 and Only3Speed 3.0. Also Conversation 8.0 no longer
runs and VanCleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system.
I've tried running KidNextDoor 12.5 to fix the last of these problems
but to no avail.

Signed..desperate of Slough

Dear desperate,
Keep in mind that AK3.50 is an entertainment package, while
Hvan 1.0 is an operating system.Try to enter the
command:C:/THOUGHTINEEDEDIT and install Tears 6.2. HVan1.0 should
automatically run the application:OneTonLoad 3.0 and ComfyCamp7.0
.but remember……………………….
……..Overuse can cause HVan1.0 to default to BurntoutValve2.5,NewTyres7.0,
or Rust 6.1.
Rust6.1 is a very bad programme that will create”Groaning Loudly” wave
files. DO NOT install Engineswap1.0 or re-install another AK program
.These are not supported applications and will crash HVan1.0.
In summary,HVan1.0 is a great programme, but does have limited
storage applications and cannot learn new applications quickly
.Consider buying additional software to improve performance,
I personally recommend HotFoot3.0,LadderandBucket5.3,
and Keep-A-nice-body10.1 …... Dave Shove

A GRAND DAY OUT AT ALEXANDRE PALACE
Bob,Ray and myself went to the Alexandre Palace Classic car show after
Ray organised tickets. This is the first time I have been to this show
but it will not be the last,it was a busy and lively show, lots of
Automobile Memorabilia and general autojumble bits plus very good
displays of cars,although not,unfortunately,many Citroens...on show was
the Traction Owners Club with some luuuveryl Tractions, also there was
one 2CV for sale on the “cars for sale” stand,a quick viewing showed a
wobbly chassis,fair amount of welding,shot rear outriggers,non-matching
paintwork, yet it was up for sale at £900..and was later sold...so there
you are!
It is amazing how much old stuff there is about, albeit for mostly
British cars(Triumphs,Rovers/Austin/Morris,etc) but the displays of
Classics bring back many happy memories and the three of us enjoyed an
excellent day out with good company…….and now…

SHOULD WE BE THERE? YES WE SHOULD! ! !

Well,I think we should,it does not cost anything for the stand,we can
sell club shop items, and the interest would be high...I have left my details
with the organisers ,what happens is that we submit an outline of what we
want to put on the stand(A 2cv,Ami6,van,H-van for example)and a panel sit
and decide who shows,we would stand a good chance not having been before
and we cover the stand on a rota….Ray and Bob are interested so watch this
space and we can discuss it at the next meeting…..
SO...a grand day out and thanks,Ray,for the invite.

OLDIES BUT GOODIES
One day a 12 year old boy was walking down the street when a car pulled up
beside him and the driver wound down its window.
Ill give you a bag of lollies if you get in the car said the driver.
“No way,get stuffed” replied the boy
“how about a bag of lollies and 10 pounds”said the driver
“no,I'm not getting in the car”said the boy
“OK,I'll give you a bag of lollies and 100 pounds “said the driver
“no”replied the boy
“what will it take to make you get in the car”said the driver
the boy replied”listen dad,you bought the bloody Volvo, you live with it!”

Air -cooled day Brooklands April 29th
This is always fun ,VW./FIAT/PORSCHE/American corvairs-and the amazing
Eastern Europe TATRA are just a few of this superb classic carS day out,
it is fantastic to see the older cars attempting the test hill,a great family day out.At present two 88 year old (cars-not men)want to compete for the fastest time up the hill..because of an accident last year only pre-war cars can use the hill this year..please come along to swell the numbers(we are talking hundreds of air-cooled cars),we hope to be near the Beetles,so lets try to put on a really good show(and sell some club gear-editor!) we need a really good and varied collection,vans,cabriolets,meharis,etc...so whatever it is polish it and bring it…….GILL
