Chat from the Chair

1998 has begun. It is our car’s 50th Birthday year. The fun starts now. We have our Southern Clubs Camp in July to look forward to and I really am hoping for a lot of support for this weekend. It is only at Walton-on-Thames, so even if you don’t want to camp, day trips are not too much of a problem. We will need help for lots of events, so as the old saying goes ‘Be Prepared’ !!

Our last meeting was good. There was a bit of a problem about The Room.... I thought we were not in the room - it was The Upholsterers group’s turn. However the manager said it was for us as our name was in the diary. I felt a bit guilty but she insisted. She now has our name in for all our meetings until December - so please help us fill the room each month. It is fairly small so it should not be difficult.

The other big 50th celebration is in Paris 21-24th May. We have advance booking forms available. The cost, including camping is £15 per person (well actually FF150 per person) with children under 12 free. Camping is open from midday on Wednesday. If you book the event in advance & don’t fancy camping they will send you a list of nearby hotels and B+B. So come on Madhatters, this is a once in a lifetime outing, throw caution to the wind and come with us. You may not be here for the centenary ! Bill and I are going overnight Wed 20th, Portsmouth / Le Havre. Another Madhatters group is going with P&O Wed 12:15 Dover / Calais returning on Monday 25th at 14:45. (cost £50 if you book before 31st March - ask Ham or Barry for more details)

Everyone seemed satisfied with the new venue.

Each club had a job that it was doing - Thames Tortoises, who no longer had the bar to do were willing to help where necessary.

A group for a live band has been approached. We need a disco for Friday & to work around the band on Saturday - any ideas ?

Madhatters are doing children’s games - so help please for Lynne & Ham.

We will have great fun and I will tell you more news later. The cost for the weekend was discussed and it was decided - £5 Fri. night, £10 for Sat. night per car. So £15 per car for the weekend. Car with one occupant £10 for weekend. Day visitors £2.

Barry Annells’ Open Day AND

Blue Peter Bring & Buy Sale

March 15th 1998

Barry is offering everyone a chance to have a look under their cars etc. from 11.00 am till .... Come and check things out. As well as doing this for your peace of mind you could help Barry’s son Peter with his Blue Peter Bring & Buy sale in aid of Cystic Fibrosis sufferers. Bring any unwanted gifts, bric-a-brac or anything new so that it can be sold. I am sure that all of you 2cvers would like to make the most of a chance to do your bit for charity. If you cannot make the sale, bring along something to our next meeting so that we can really fill the tables. Other clubs who read this please let your members know about this so we can make a success of the day. Any cooks - bring your cakes, pies etc. I am sure they will sell easily.

Blues Evening - Feb 24th

This is our "Evening Out" (the not Christmas Party). Jagz Club "At The Station", Ascot for a Blues evening. We went last year for a Jazz evening, it was great fun and the food tasty and with plenty of choice. The band on this night is "The Hydramatics" - described as playing "joint jumping swing and blues".

Entry to the club is £4 and food is available as snacks or main courses £3.50 to £6+. £10 will get you in and any main course.

You can just sit & listen & drink for your entry fee if that is what you want. Come and have a good night out - you could even dance !!

However we would like to know numbers, so if you haven’t let us know can you do so ASAP. This is really to warn the owner, John, of larger numbers than usual. This is particularly important if you want to eat.
