Around 220 cars made the trip from Esher College to Hove Park on Sunday 28th May 2000. The theme was 'The Circus' so there were drivers and passengers dressed as clowns, acrobats, strong men, trapeze artists etc and some of the cars were decorated accordingly.

The event was organised by the South Downs Escargots, a local group within 2CVGB and as usual went without a hitch. The weather was decidedly windy but the heavy rain which other areas suffered only made an occasional appearance!

The pictures below were taken in Hove Park during the course of the day.

VAN FOR SALE

A number of trade stands did brisk business in anything from spark plugs to completely restored vehicles, like the immaculate van above.

MEHARI

Nearly all types of 'A' Series Citroën were represented, including the plastic bodied Mehari shown above.

2CV

A fairly rare sight, even at 2CV events, this early 2CV has a 'ripple' bonnet and no window behind the rear door. Note the 'suicide' front doors. It's original engine was a mere 425cc.

AMI 6

Another rare sight. Of the 3 types of 'A' Series saloons (2CV, Dyane and Ami) the Ami, particularly the Ami 6, is a decidedly endangered species. It can be distinguished from the later Ami 8 and Ami Super by the cut-away rear window shown below - similar to the Ford Anglia 105E of the same era.

SPECIAL

The 2CV is ideally suited to the driver who likes his car to be individual. This one was for the athletic only - the doors don't open!

TRACTION AVANT

OK, so it's not an 'A' Series, but it does represent Citroën at their independent, innovative best and was a welcome guest at Hove Park. This pre-war design was the first mass produced front wheel drive car.

Next year we hope to do it all again on the Sunday of the second May Bank Holiday.
