A report on the spectacular Raid Laponie 2004 - Mark Lewis SF (SuperFinn)

Introduction

Having owned 2CVs for 18 years and been at many camps I'd often heard about Raid Laponie. I'd done Raids in Sancerre, had my car on Top Gear and even displayed the 4x4 2CV at the NEC Classic car show. When I finally was in the right place at the right time (Beer tent in Italy World Meeting), I had half the deposit in my pocket, borrowed the rest from a friend,(soon to be co-driver) and the rest as they say is history. We were off to Lapland in a 2CV. A slightly modified 2CV that is, as it had a Louis Barbour 4x4 conversion but it was a Raid for A series and that is what I had!!

The movie can be controlled by mouse-right-click.

Just over 6000 miles were driven in getting to the start, competing and getting back. The Raid itself was fantastic. All credit has to go to the organisers and the teams who took part. It was 10 days not just driving but being with a great bunch of people. The conditions, scenery and at times lack of it all added to it. 14 nationalities took part and with a bit of luck as a SuperFinn I can look forward to meeting them at the forthcoming SuperFinn gatherings. This, they say, was the last one but if you really want to do the Raid don't give up hope. You can never say never...
